This is mostly for myself. I’m moving this weekend. Part of the goal with moving is saving money and time. One of my biggest killers has been my commute. Being in Pontiac has me far away from everywhere I go. I love the loft, but I just can’t maintain it any longer.
My major commutes are to work, in Southfield, and to kung fu training, in Detroit. This is the break down of miles I drive if I go to training two times per week, and on a Saturday, which is what I’d like to make it to, at the least.
Home to work: 16 miles
Work to training: 22 miles
training to home: 30 miles
Morning commute: 80 miles / week
Nightly commute with two nights of training: 152 miles / week
Saturday training: 60 miles / week
Totals:
292 Miles with Saturday / 232 miles without Saturday
After the move, the numbers change dramatically:
Home to work: 3 miles
Work to training: 22 miles
training to home: 16.1 miles
Morning commute: 15 miles / week
Nightly commute with two nights of training: 97 miles / week
Saturday training: 32 miles / week
Totals:
144 Miles with Saturday / 112 miles without Saturday
With training, my commute will be cut in half. Montly, this will save me approximately 592 miles per month. This will equal about $50 in fuel and 10 hours in driving. The time alone is worth it. I enjoy driving, but it was feeling extremely laborious. Cutting the time in half will improve my eagerness to actually get out of the house more.
If anyone decides to help move, it will be Sunday, you’ll want to show up around 10am. Email if you need directions, etc. I pick up the truck at 9am, should be back by 10am. Call or email with questions, etc. There isn’t that much stuff to move, but will need some muscles to help move some of the bigger stuff.
