I woke up to the aftermath of a bobcat attack on one of my coops. I lost a few babies and it’s been a rough morning, including Carl, Emily, Lyanna(one of my original Svarthona hens), So-crates, and Gaffer.
It was my retirement coop, they all had vision problems and Carl had quiet a few issues. I wasn’t expecting him to live a lot longer, the other might have has a year or two left.
I deal with my own sadness, the most. I loved those babies and spent a lot of time making their lives as comfortable as I can.
This sort of thing is the hardest part of having a flock.
It happens.
It’s the circle of life.
I’ve learned a tremendous amount about love and caring for things, but it can be hard to reconcile that with the empty feeling deep down.
And it was preventable, the bobcat exploited a weakness I knew about and was planning to fix, but I didn’t think it was that exploitable.
Not having Carl’s wonking sound will change the mood of the yard a lot. It was legit constant 🤣
