Post-stroke life: Six Years In

Today marks the sixth anniversary for when I had a stroke. It makes it an ideal time for an update.

Not much has changed since my last update.

They say most of the progress you will make will be in the first year, and this resonates.

Not that there hasn’t been progress, but progress during my first year was substantial. It wasn’t optimal, considering, but it was at a rate that far eclipsed any time since then.

Things I notice progressing, though very incrementally:

  • The feeling in my hand. It’s very minor, and I will always have numbness in it. But it does improve a tad.
  • My mobility is good. On a good day, I can pass off as “normal”(whatever that means). It’s hard, but I can do it.

The things that get worse include my short-term memory and my spasticity.

The spasticity results from the damage caused by the numbness on my right side and my brain trying to work through it. I don’t understand it 100% but my stress is being super high all the time makes it worse. It’s practically crippling when it peaks. It also triggers neuro-fatigue which breaks my brain.

I don’t know. I have some ok days, I have some days I can barely function.

I haven’t made much progress and non-stop stress is crippling. But I get through day to day.

Leave me a tip 🙏🙏
