Final Fantasy VII Metal Playlist 🤘

With the release of an updated version, I am reminded that Final Fantasy VII, beyond being one of the best games ever, also has some of the greatest music. I put together a master playlist with my favorite Final Fantasy VII metal versions I could find.

There are many fans out there making metal music of video game covers. I have in the past compiled a set of favorite covers from the NES era. Many of the same artists perform video game covers from multiple eras, and it seems FF7 is one of the more popular titles to cover.

I narrowed my list down to only include one version of each track, and without repeating the same artist too many times. There are multiple tracks from the same artists on here because some of these guys really do some incredible work.

I couldn’t find good covers of some of the tracks, and a few of the tracks (like the battle music) has quite a few versions to choose from, which made selecting some very difficult. I hope you enjoy this bit of geeky nostalgia!

A vinyl record with colorful comic-book cover art for “I Hate Fairyland.” The cover shows the green-haired character Gertrude (Gert) in pigtails, grinning and brandishing a large, blood-splattered double-headed axe. Hey tiny winged sidekick hovers nearby. The bold, multicolored title “I HATE FAIRYLAND” spans the bottom. The black LP is partially slid out to the right, with a label image of Gert.

The image displays an album cover and a partially visible black vinyl record against a plain white background. The square album cover is designed to resemble a classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) controller, featuring a black background with grey directional pad, start/select buttons, and red A/B buttons. Centered above the control layout is a red oval with a white outline, containing "Nintendo Metal" in white text, stylized like the classic Nintendo logo. Above this, a white gothic-style text, resembling "dft," is presented with a paint splatter effect. The black vinyl record, positioned to the right, has a central label that also mimics a section of an NES controller, showing grey buttons and two red buttons.

This image shows a vinyl record album cover for "Cyberpunk 1992" in a retro-futuristic aesthetic. The cover features vibrant neon colors - primarily hot pink and cyan blue - with "cyberpunk" displayed in bold, glitchy digital-style lettering at the top and "1992" in yellow script below it. The artwork depicts a dystopian urban scene with futuristic characters including what appears to be punk-styled figures with weapons, set against a backdrop of towering skyscrapers and neon-lit cityscape. The scene has a distinctly 1980s-90s cyberpunk vibe reminiscent of movies like Blade Runner. A black vinyl record is partially visible next to the album cover, and the entire image is set against a purple gradient background. There's also what appears to be a logo or emblem in the bottom left corner of the album artwork.
